VOCATIONAL NURSING
This program requires 42 full time and 60 part time weeks of attendance days. The Vocational Nursing program meets five days a week and is considered a full time program. Students will learn proper patient care, medical terminology, medication administration, body systems, body growth and development, patient care assessment, and nursing procedures. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are awarded a certificate in vocational nursing, and will be eligible to apply for and take the NCLEX PN. Upon successful passing the NCLEX-PN, the graduates will apply for a Vocational Nurse License.
Hours: 42 Weeks/ 1557 hours (classes meet 39 hours per week)

Program Objectives:
At the completion of the Vocational Nursing program, the student will be able to work with a registered nurse and utilize the nursing process to assist in the development of a plan of care for an assigned patient. Students will be able to utilize theory and clinical skills when meeting the needs of an assigned patient in the clinical area; perform as a member of the health care team following the California vocational nurse scope of practice regulations; implement cultural awareness with health team members and when caring for patients; when planning patient care, identify developmental needs according the Erickson's theory; implement the "six rights" and safely administer medications to patients of different ages; use sterile and aseptic techniques when performing treatments; provide care and treatment for adult, geriatric, maternity, newborn, and pediatric patients; apply mental health concepts when caring for all patients; and pass the NCLEX-PN after completing the program.
